The first thing you do is locate the 3-pin CMOS password reset jumper. Usually on the motherboard. If you have no experience in handling computers, you should call a qualified technician to do the work for you.

But if you want to do it yourself, open the PC case of Dell, and carefully remove the jumper pins marked 1 and 2. Then put the cap on pins at number two and three. Wait about ten seconds, and then modify the plug on pins 1 and 2. If done right, you will be able to reset your password.

For Dell Optiplex, you need to spend some time studying the specific instructions in the design of the motherboard, since the process is more complex. The first thing to do is remove the password jumper. Make your Dell User Guide in hand, because the search can be difficult. When you find the CMOS jumper, remove it.

Like the Dell Dimension that you need to remove the bridges with the claws of the first and second. Put it on pins 2 and 3. After a minute or so, you can put it back on pins 1 and 2.

Again, note that the password resetting process BIOS in Dell computers are delicate process and should only be done by experts. Often, users, especially new ones, should have a technician perform for this task.

If you think you can do it yourself, you need to be sure you've done well in system designs. Also, be sure to work in bright surroundings. It's easy to lose sight of the bridges.
